The Coombes Online Classroom is a collection of national curriculum aligned lessons and online resources, created in response to the coronavirus lockdown.

Our online classroom offers free access to parents and pupils of The Coombes CE Primary School and beyond, delivering video lessons, quizzes and learning tasks. Available for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, our lessons cover reading (including phonics), writing and maths. All of the lessons are ordered so your child can learn along a clear plan. We'll provide new lessons and resources each week.

As we develop this online classroom to include more content covering further curriculum areas, please use this site alongside other high-quality resources such as BBC Bitesize and PE with Joe Wicks to offer a structure for the day. Timetables to support families structure the day around home learning can be found below. However, we fully appreciate each household is different and these timetables are only suggested:

Consistent routines are important for behaviour and wellbeing and routines at home have changed significantly. Routines support behaviour and you will be finding a new rhythm with your family. The Education Endowment Foundation have provided a daily planner to help further structure home learning routines.

We set no expectation on the pace and rate at which lessons are completed. Parents and pupils are free to repeat lessons if they feel more time is needed to learn the knowledge items within the lessons or even if some things have been forgotten! Some parents may choose to fast-track their child through a lesson if they are confident that their child can effectively demonstrate the learning outcome of the lesson.

Each Coombes Online Classroom lesson will be an hour long, with elements such as a quiz, a video explanation from the teacher and a supporting learning tasks. Each lesson will have a clear learning objective and success criteria so that parents and pupils can accurately self-assess their learning and make the informed decision as to whether a lesson needs to be repeated or the pupil can move on to the next lesson in the sequence. Each success criteria is broken down into "I can...", "I can also..." and "I can even..." statements, with each statement cumulatively adding depth, complexity and sophistication in the required response to meeting the learning objective. In the classroom, we link these success criteria statements to tiered tasks known as 'chilli challenges' that range from 'mild tasks' (least challenging/high amount of support given) to 'medium tasks' to 'hot tasks' (highly challenging/little or no support given). Children can move between challenges based on the level of success demonstrated within their current challenge or can practise within a challenge for longer if needed. Each lesson has been created by teachers at The Coombes and have been designed to enable pupils to learn the specific content within the school's longer term planning.
