We have
a small herd of sheep. They are cared for by the staff and the children,
with the support of a vet when needed. We have a ram and three ewes at the
time of writing. When all goes well the children have the wonderful opportunity
to find out about the life cycle of these mammals, how the birth of lambs
fits in with the seasons and how to care for sheep. The children get the
chance to see traditional skills such as sheep shearing at close hand and
to work with the fleece - making felt, weaving, dyeing with natural dyes
they have made themselves. The children choose names for the lambs.
