Our Governors' Statement of Aims for the Curriculum

Each pupil will follow a curriculum which:

Is broad, balanced and designed to emphasise the relevance of the knowledge skills and understanding developed through learning and experience.

Satisfies the requirements of the Education Reform Act relating to the National Curriculum (and any update of this, including Religious Education and Collective Worship) and ensuring that sufficient time is allowed for all aspects of the core and foundation subjects.

Satisfies the requirements of the Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Provides continuity of learning experiences, as well as progression within and between the levels of attainment at KS1, and also with regard to the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage.

Offers challenge, leading to the highest standards of personal achievement through recognition of individual needs according to ability and aptitude.

Is based on a stream of real-life experiences, bringing the children into contact with experts.

Is multi-cultural and multi-ethnic in scope

The School should help children:

To acquire the knowledge, skills and practical abilities, and the will to use them.

To use language and number effectively.

To develop qualities of mind, body, spirit, feeling, imagination and intellect.

To appreciate human achievements in art, music, science, technology, literature, mathematics, information technology and the performing arts.

To acquire understanding of the social, economic and political order and a reasoned set of attitudes, values and beliefs which promote equal opportunity and understanding of and for other people.

To start to prepare for their adult lives as informed and responsible citizens including an awareness of healthy living.

To develop a sense of self-respect, self-confidence, and the capacity to live as independent, self-motivated adults and the ability to function as contributing members of a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic technological society.

To be aware that people have differing beliefs and ways of worship, whilst reflecting the fact that Christianity is the main religious tradition in our society.

The School should:

Welcome a variety of visitors, and share the life of the school with these visitors.

Welcome parents and family members as teachers/learners into the school community.
